My daughter brought a tennis racquet in her backpack to play tennis in Florida on a Spirit. At the check-in the lady saw all our backpacks and did not say anything.

We went to board the flight and we were stopped and made us pay either $100 at the gate or go back to check-in, pay $50 and come back to board. We had only 15 min to board the flight. I saw several people carrying much bigger bags (volume) than a tennis racquet with out paying. The lady at the gate saying that we clearly mentioned on the web site about the policy.

Their policy is to milk peoples money. It is such a common thing to carry tennis racquets to Florida, they should mention on that clearly that tennis racquets were not allowed as free carry-on items.

We paid the $100 to get on with our trip and it costs that much to buy a racquet.

They call it a cheap airline and if you add up all things to charge, they are no longer cheap. With the gas prices so low, they need to rethink about these policies.
