Barclays/Spirit offered credit card with free air milage. I bit.

When I tried to use the card, there was nothing free. As soon as I called and they verified there was a flight on the date I wanted, they asked for my credit card number (dummy? I gave it to them, assuming they need to verify I had the airmiles) Even a seat was extra. When I said I wasn't interested, they refused to cancel except if I paid $100 for that "free ticket" and said when I gave them my card #, that was the right to charge me..all within 2 minutes of phonetime.

I cancelled the card the next minute and explained to Barclays why..but barclays charged it anyway for charges I had refused and threatened surcharges if not paid. I asked (Pres. of Spirit/ US office for Barclay Bank) for their alleged transcripts of phone conversation. No response.

Despite my giving several reps a clear description of the problem Spirit/Barclays said I had requested a flight so the charges were valid...even if I never used the flight. If this ain't fraud, what is?
