My sister is 24, single mother, just recently diagnosed with cancer. I am completely DISGUSTED with Spirit Airlines.

My sister purchased tickets in advance to send her daughter to her scheduled custody visit for spring break, weeks before she learned that she has a very aggressive CANCER and has start chemotherapy immediately. The oncologist told her NO FLYING and that they would provide a letter so she could allow her sister and mother to fly in her place, which airlines don't have an issue with. She called “Spirit” to change the flight plan and THEN was talked to like garbage from Spirit’s famous ‘Customer Service Team’. The only “accommodation” that Spirit could muster up was to change the flight for the additional cost of 130 per ticket, THERE’S 4 of them, like just moving the date is going to help, um, I think you missed the point, Spirit!

So, in light of totally unexpected events, trying to call Spirit and expect a rational and reasonable solution to the issue and hand, the only options they extend is a solution to the tune of $500+ more than you’ve already paid. OR there’s the suck it up option that they like to say they frown upon.

So here she is, the day of the flight with no financial relief due to new medical bills, court ordered arrangements that cannot be disobeyed, 6 inches of snow freshly fallen in TEXAS, she's sick and terrified of what might happen during flight so she's also had no sleep. She can't even muster the energy to drive.

The side effects of chemotherapy treatments kicking her ***, going out into the snow makes her skin feel like its on fire, dreaming having to go to an AIRPORT with low platelets, hoping this doesn’t SEND HER INTO THE HOSPITAL. Spirit refused to simply let her put my sisters or mothers name on the tickets for legitimate health reasons without an apology, no legal concern, no moral concern, just another ticket.

It is obvious what your ‘spirit’ is all about and I will take this to court if ANYTHING happens because of your policy.

This reviewer shared experience about poor customer service and wants this business to read this review and look into the issue (if any). This person is overall dissatisfied with Spirit Airlines. Reviewer wants customer support to reach our to him or her ASAP for further discussion of this matter.

You are looking at this without taking into account that your sister chose the non-refundable, nom-transferrable ticket. While this was before she was sick, that does not change Spirit`s obligation.

It is willing to.give your sister what she paid for. Also, your sister could have purchased travel insurance which would have reduced the financial loss.

Also, what I don`t understand is why didn`t your mother, your other sister, or you pay for a ticket for your mother to take the daughter.

If this is such a medical crisis, why do you expect Spirit to do something that you yourself won`t do - buy a ticket. If the family did that than your sick sister would not face he discomfort of flying
