Spirit Airlines in New York, New York - Issued Credit when I wanted to get my money back

I had to go from NY to Detroit because of my grandsons baby naming which occurs on the eighth day after birth. I made a reservation at 4:50 AM on a Friday. Within 20 minutes after making the reservation, my son made a reservation using his points on a different airline. There was no way for me to make a reservation with any airline with more than seven days notice. Spirit said that they could cancel the flight but only issue a credit for the amount less a cancellation fee. So, now I have a credit for an airline that I do not want to fly.

Spirit Airlines in Staten Island, New York - Advised me to cancel online, gave me a credit, then said it expired

In October I had to cancel a flight because it was postponed two days due to HURRICANE SANDY. I was only flight for 5 days. So, I called them to cancel and they told me I would be able to get a credit to flight later. In January, less than 3 moths later, I was trying to claim this credit and they told me it had expired. I had no idea it would expired in 60 days, 1) because no one told me, 2) that is ridiculous, and 3) there was no way for me to take another flight so soon, and I knew that. Their customer services said there was nothing they could do, and gladly kept my money. Apparently, this is the kind or service and policies they have for hurricane/weather victims. NEVER MAKING RESERVATIONS WITH THEM AGAIN.

Spirit Airlines in New York, New York - Bad Spirit

Our family of three flew to vacation via Spirit Airlines, which seemed to be the most affordable offer. We had one hand luggage each, which we thought should be carried for free, but when we reached the gate, our hand luggage was 2 inches oversized. We had to pay $40 for each piece, for a total of $120! This was a vacation expense we didn't count on. And going on an 8 day vacation, we really couldn't carry our clothes in our pockets. Spirit, being "a completely cashless operation", as they will repeatedly tell you, doesn't accept US legal tender. Just plastic. Preferably theirs. During each flight you will get a 20 minute speech peddling their Master Card in exchange for "free" flights, but if you want a sip of water to take a Tylenol with, that sip will cost you $3. Chargeable to your Master Card. In the past we flew internationally often, and remember the times when airlines fed you lunches and dinners; gave you moist warm towels to refresh yourself, and plenty of water, juice or coffee. Spirit Airlines cleverly disguises the fact that you are, for the cheap price you pay, completely on your own. Without food, drinks or even hand luggage. Soon they will charge for air. Oh, and by the way, we had to pay to return that hand luggage home. And our flight was delayed by 2.5 hours. Next time we will pay the full price of a ticket, and be treated like humans, rather than feel ripped off for $3 water cups, chargeable to credit cards. This was a most unpleasant flight, and we are not flying on Spirit again.

Spirit Airlines - FAIL!

I offered to change my date of departure because the airline overbooked the flight I reserved and the Sprit representatives were offering people in the check in line a voucher for a flight to anywhere in the US in exchange for changing their date of departure.. Me and my girlfriend accepted this while in the line for check in at the airport… So we delayed our flight one day as well as paid for a taxi both ways totaling over $100 not to mention the 3 hours in extra travel time we took to return to the airport the next day. It was a major inconvenience and only because we were offered a free round trip anywhere in the USA did we accept this offer. Today I went to call and try to make a reservation and they said it was only valid for 60 days and they could not book the flight I was attempting to book… At no time during the time they were giving me and my girlfriend our vouchers did they say there was any expiration date or date the flight would need to be redeemed by…in fact there was no stipulations at all that were relayed to us… I spoke to a manager on the phone today and he told me that there was a Voucher policy flyer that was handed out to anyone receiving a voucher stating the stipulations.. My girlfriend nor I received this. What we did receive was our own receipt back with our Voucher numbers on it as well as the phone number to call to redeem and book our flights from our voucher…The employees that set up our voucher at the airline gave us these. We were never told of an expiration date or given anything that would let us know this… We were told to simply call the number and give them the voucher number and we would be all set…. I even asked if this is all I will need referring to what I was given and she said all I needed to do was call up and tell them our name and the credit is in their system. Today I called the number to book a flight and was told there was no way to redeem these vouchers due to the expiration policy I was not told of… I understand employees at times can and will make mistakes…. At the same time I feel that if there was a mistake like this made by not informing us of an expiration date that the company should find a way to honor that which was offered at the very least.. In the end it cost us MORE than our original flight booked as well as wasted a day on our vacation. Spirit made ZERO effort to help us in return for our willingness to accommodate them.

SPIRIT AIRLINES DECEPTIVE PRACTICES

I went on American Express.com to book 2 round trip tickets to Florida. Although Spirit and Delta had comprable published fares, I choose Spirit's flights because their scheduling was more conducive to my travel plans. 24 hours before the flight, I went on line to print my boarding pass. I was shocked to find out that I had to pay a fee if I wanted any advanced seating, prior to going to the gate. In addition, I also had to pay for my carry on bag. I also discovered that there would be a higher charges if I picked up my tickets or paid for the carry on at the airport. The real rub is that although Spirit airlines advertise their published fares at a lower price than most other airlines. if you add all their additional fees to the ticket price, they are actually more expensive than most other airlines. In my opinion this is the perfect example of deceptive business practices. On a side note their seats (at least the ones that I had) did not recline). The FAA which is so concerned about the public safety, should look into the fact that there are some seats that have so little leg room, that it is unsafe and unhealthy to sit in them for extended periods of time.

Spirit Airlines NIGHTMARE

Went on a trip to Costa Rica. A beautiful time. On the way back, the Spirit pilot announces on the tarmac that he needs to return to the gate because 'he forgot to do some paperwork'. OK, strange, but fine. Due to his error, we wind up in Ft. Lauderdale late, and Spirit tells us that they have rebooked our connecting flight on a flight NINE HOURS LATER. That flight is delayed (due to weather), so in the end we need to wait in the airport for 12 hours. Don't expect stellar service with this airline. And when they mess up, expect terrible customer service. They have cheap fares, but you run the risk of long delays and being treated like a spittoon by their lame excuse for customer service. I can't wait for them to go bankrupt and for all those Sprint customer service people to lose their jobs.

Spirit Airlines in New York, New York - SpiritRipF

Barclays/Spirit offered credit card with free air milage. I bit. When I tried to use the card, there was nothing free. As soon as I called and they verified there was a flight on the date I wanted, they asked for my credit card number (dummy? I gave it to them, assuming they need to verify I had the airmiles) Even a seat was extra. When I said I wasn't interested, they refused to cancel except if I paid $100 for that "free ticket" and said when I gave them my card #, that was the right to charge me..all within 2 minutes of phonetime. I cancelled the card the next minute and explained to Barclays why..but barclays charged it anyway for charges I had refused and threatened surcharges if not paid. I asked (Pres. of Spirit/ US office for Barclay Bank) for their alleged transcripts of phone conversation. No response. Despite my giving several reps a clear description of the problem Spirit/Barclays said I had requested a flight so the charges were valid...even if I never used the flight. If this ain't fraud, what is?
