My son was surprising me for Christmas. He got a ticket on Spirit Airlines but for some reason, it was taking him through Baltimore he was going from San Diego to Seattle.
(He's a new Marine.) He got the ticket it specifically said his end destination was Seattle but when he got to the airport they only gave him a ticket to Baltimore. He had already paid his baggage fee and went to ask about the continuation to Seattle. They tried to tell him that his trip wasn't going there but he could pay 600 more dollars to go all the way. He showed them his reservation that said Seattle as the final destination but they wouldn't help him unless he paid more money.
They were going to send him across the country and leave him stranded there. I contacted customer service and they were willing to give him a "voucher" for his unused trip because thankfully Delta airlines stepped in and saved his trip.
But basically the long and short of it is that it was a scam that would have left a new marine stranded across the country and gotten him in trouble with his supervisors when he wasn't back on time. (His flight home was on Delta and from Seattle.) We complained to the BBB and to the airline directly with very unsatisfactory resolution no matter how cheap their flight seems it is worth it to actually use an airline that isn't trying to scam you.
