Spirit Airlines - Flight Review from San Leandro, California

I fly approximately 1-2 times a month with Spirit, ONLY because they are inexpensive. The majority of their staff are unprofessional in both appearance and customer service. I understand they are a low cost airline. However, there is no excuse for their employees to be so unprofessional and down right rude. I worked for an airline as a gate and ticket counter agent, so I know how stressful the position can get at times. It seems that this airline does not concern their selves with the basics of customer service and I'm really getting sick of it, I'm not going to renew my membership club with them and I will start paying a higher price to fly another airline, I would rather do that just to receive common courtesy.

my experience was pure unmitigated torture. each time one hour sitting on runway before ***. I would rather get a root canal done than get on one of their flights. I would drive from l.a. to detroit before flying with this trainwreck. lawn chair non reclining seats where your face is crammed into the person in front of you. in order to reach your carry on purse (reviews show they hijack you for bringing a change of clothes or being one minute late to stand in line for an hour) you have to stick your face in your neighbors crotch based on the sardine can seating. no ventilation, no reclining seats, no arm rest...if you werent claustrophobic before you fly with them you will be when you get off...hellish...excuse for sitting on runway one hour was that somebody stole one of the seatbelts? thirsty? have a coke credit card only for 4 bucks

I was drawn by the low prices for a trip from Oakland to Chicago. After I booked it, the carry on and checked bag fees, "seat prices" and "airport charge" took the cost way beyond the normal fares. I was never able to reach a person in customer service by phone but got...

This is the customer's fault for not reading the terms of the ticket they were buying, before doing so. It is hard to blame a company for the customer's failure to do due diligence.

This is something the customer knew, since one is required to check that they have read the terms of the ticket before they can buy. To claim otherwise means the customer lied when they bought the ticket.

The worst airline ever exists in the world . I was planning to fly from SAN to DAL today . Didn't expect to pay a $100 fee for a tiny carry on , so I argued with the front desk . Meanwhile , there is another lady arguing with the front desk for 15 minutes . In the end...

So you agreed to the rules with Spirit airlines and then argue at the counter about having them enforced. You are too cheap to pay the $100 fee for a carry on, despite the fact you agreed to it when you bought your ticket.

What makes you so entitled to have the rules bent just for you?

Then when the airlines [we don't know why] allows another passenger a plastic bag, you seize on racial discrimination. You waive the flag of racial discrimination without any proof that was the reason.

Maybe the agent just got tired of arguing. It is people like you who scream racial discrimination at the smallest perceived slight that devalue and degrade the efforts made in real advances in racial harmony, and make such claims into a badge of entitlement just because you were not treated like the princess you think you are in your own mind.

Spirit Airlines in Oxnard, California - Baggage and seating fees extortion

Baggage fees with Spirit are very confusing. We will likely never use Spirit again as a result. According to the reservation receipt we received upon purchasing the ticket, the baggage fees were $30/bag. Then when we to got the boarding pass, the fee was raised to $40 per bag for both legs of the flight, totaling $80 for one bag. Apparently there is supposed to be some way to pay for the bags before getting the boarding pass, but we could not find it anywhere on your site. Further, we booked the flight through Expedia, $30 was the quoted baggage rate, not $40. Nothing was ever mentioned about a $40 per bag rate. Don't even mention your "nine dollar club" scam. It says we would've saved $18 on this flight, but never mentions until you try to buy the nine dollar club that the club actually cost $59. So actually we would not of save money but spent even more. Then there was a minimum $28 fee to get assigned seats. This is blatant nickel-and-diming, and there is no legitimate business reason for it. Nowhere at the time of purchase was this fee disclosed. It was very difficult to find the contact phone number on your site in order to discuss this with one of your agents. In fact, we could only find it from the Better Business Bureau. We called and stayed on hold for more than an hour before the call was dropped. So much for customer service. Spirit airlines will not be considered by us in the future.

Did you ever take a limousine? It was nice, but expensive.

Have you ever taken a taxi? It was okay, but doesn't cost as much. Have you ever ridden the bus? That was cheap, but not pleasant.

Not all airlines are the same and you should realize that. The business model for Spirit is closer to the bus than the limo. If you don't have much luggage, if you are willing to bring your own snacks, and if the only important thing is to get there, Spirit is a great airlines. Obviously, your expectations of what you want in an airlines is closer to the limo style.

Then you need to pay more and fly more established big airlines who have more of what you want.

In other words, don't take the bus and complain that it is not a limo.

The problem is that it is extortion. When one buys a ticket through an aggregate service like Priceline or Kayak, he/she shops for the best deal.

When a ticket says a price, the consumer needs to be notified of any hidden fees that may balloon the total cost. The email confirmation from the aggregate does not mention the hidden fees for a carry on. It's not until you are able to check in 24 hours before your flight that you are notified that, oh, its extra for a carry-on. Guess when the cut-off is to cancel your flight for a refund?

If you show up to the airport without paying the $35 fee(one way,+$70 for round trip), then its +$50 at the check in counter. If you show up to the gate with a bag, then its +$100 one way (that's +$200 for round trippers! - just for a carry on). If you don't have the money to pay for your bag, then you are sentenced to airport purgatory until you pay up and they will keep all your money, no refund if you cant shell out the extra $100.

That is extortion. The problem is that if one is shopping for the bus, but gets charged for the limo then they feel ripped-off, which is what this airline does. It misrepresents its final cost and blindsides with hidden fees that cost way more. The gate keepers are worn out and not friendly because everybody is complaining to them about the same problem.

The attendants don't do their job, and the planes are dirty and cheap.

It's terrible. I will never fly this airline again.

Spirit Airlines in Los Angeles, California - Canceled my ticket without any reason, refused to refund or put me to another flight, rude personnel

1.0
Details
They are the worst airline ever. I wish there is way to give no star at all. They canceled my flight without good reason or any sort of notification, saying that since I missed my first flight and hence they canceled my second flight. I couldn't find this out until I am at the airport. They refuse to refund my canceled ticket and refused to put me to another flight. The customer service and supervisor are extremely rude, there is no respect whatsoever to their customers. I would suggest anyone to stay away from this airline because in one way or another they will *** over.

Spirit Airlines in Diamond Bar, California - Flight delays for a 92 year old disabled person with dimentia

I had such a horrible experience with Spirit thinking this would be a better flight for my dad who is 92 years old and traveling to Minnesota...it was a direct flight and because he was traveling by himself I thought it was the best choice even though I had to travel 40 miles to LAX his flight would only be 3 hours...So on Tuesday I left my house at 3:30 pm and arrived at LAX by 4:15 pm...As I approached Spirit's terminal I had to park my car and go inside to request wheelchair assistance since they don't provide curbside assistance...Never had that problem with Southwest...they were always at curbside. So they called someone that came down within 10 min...so I had to leave and park my car to return to terminal. We were escorted through security and that was fine. Once we arrived at the gate we were told boarding at 5:45 pm...At 5:45 we were told we would be boarding at 6:45pm and the flight would be departing at 7:10 pm... I boarded my dad at 6:45 pm and proceeded to the parking lot to drive home. Got call on the road from my dad that the flight had not departed yet...When I got home I checked again and saw that the flight was leaving now at 8:25 pm...Got a all from my sister in Minneapolis that she got call from my dad and they still had not taken off. I checked the website and it said 8:25 pm...Called Spirit upset about all the delays and was told in order to get a refund my dad would have to leave the plane within the first 15 minutes...I said are you kidding!!! A 92 year old disabled person that can't walk on his own is expected to de board the plane himself?...Are these people for real??? Just found out the flight just departed at 9:10 pm which means it will arrive in Minneapolis at 2:30 am...So much for a direct flight...I'll be writing Spirit tomorrow...obviously they don't respond to these issues with their customer service agents....they're not local...if you know what I mean. I've never had anything close to this experience with Southwest and will never have my dad fly any other airline again...Spirit is a loser airline and I will never ever fly this airline again
